Count Every Vote Act of 2005

by Jonah Goldman

The National Campaign for Fair Elections was a chief architect in drafting the "Count Every Vote Act of 2005." Introduced by Senators Boxer and Clinton, the bill serves as a positive step forward in remedying the rampant problems experienced by voters. We strongly supports the provisions of the bill that address voter registration problems, expand the early voting time period, prosecute those that engage in deceptive practices, permit voter verification, re-enfranchise all citizens who have paid their debt to society and reduce restrictive guidelines for counting provisional ballots. The Count Every Vote Act provides citizens across the country the necessary tools to cast an effective and meaningful vote. Substantive, effective election reform can be accomplished and guard against election fraud. A better system can be developed that is more open to eligible voters while keeping those who would like to manipulate the system out. The Count Every Vote Act strikes this crucial balance. Those who support this bill are lending their voice to securing the rights of all Americans to participate in our national experience by casting a meaningful vote.
