Voter Registration Information

The Lawyers’ Committee and its pro bono law firm partners have compiled comprehensive third-party voter registration guides for all 50 states and the District of Columbia.  These guides will help volunteers, organizers, and leaders navigate the complex rules that govern voter registration in each state. 

Registration Deadline

30 days before an election

Where to Obtain Registration Forms

Absentee Voting

Absentee voting is allowed if voter is:

  • A member of the Armed Forces or a spouse or dependent of a member of the Armed forces
  • A U.S. citizen living overseas who will be at least 18 years of age before the next General Election and whose last residence prior to going overseas was in AR
  • Unable to be at his or her precinct on Election Day
  • Ill or has a disability preventing a trip to the polling place

Rules and Deadlines

  • Absentee ballots can be found with the County Clerk and must be requested by mail ten days before an election.
  • Ballot must be received by County Clerk by 7:30 pm on Election Day by mail or by designated bearer or authorized agent.
  • If returning in person or by designated bearer, ballots must be returned to the regional election office by close of business the day before the election
    • A designated Bearer is anyone chosen to pick up or deliver application or ballot.
  • If returning by mail or fax, ballots must be returned by 7 days before the election or by 1:30 p.m. on Election Day by authorized agent.
    • The authorized agent must file with the County Clerk an affidavit of the administrative head of a hospital or nursing home located in this state that the applicant is a patient of the hospital or nursing home and is thereby unable to vote on the Election Day at his or her regular polling site.

Early Voting

Yes, for any registered voter beginning 15 days before an election and ending the Monday before the election at the County Clerk’s office and other appointed locations.

Identification Requirements

At registration:

  • Copy of valid and current photo ID or
  • Copy of current utility bill,
  • Bank statement,
  • Government check,
  • Paycheck,
  • Other government document that shows name and address.

At polls, election officials shall request the voter to provide identification.  Acceptable forms of ID include:

  • Driver’s license,
  • Government-issued photo ID,
  • Voter card,
  • Social Security Card,
  • Birth Certificate,
  • U.S. passport,
  • Employee or Student ID card,
  • Arkansas hunting license,
  • U.S. military ID card, or
  • Copy of a current utility bill, bank statement, government check, paycheck, or other government document that shows the name and address of the voter.
